Summary:Do you like Pink Floyd and the string quartet? Overall Rating: Comment:"Pink Floyd: A Classical Tribute" offers a rewarding experience for the orchestrally appreciative Floydian. Pink Floyd's music is arranged here for a string quartet plus the addition of a piano and the occasional flute. The hour long disc is broken into pieces that will appeal to the fan of every time period. Four medleys chronologically represent the career of Pink Floyd. 'Invention' is the first movement that features songs of the early Floyd. Here, the group plays tunes from the Syd Barret time period including, 'Bike,' 'Arnold Layne' and 'See Emily Play.' It is a most enjoyable experience to hear the first Roger Waters songs such as 'Set the Controls" and 'Grantchester Meadows.' The second movement includes music from the "Dark Side Of The Moon." The 'Division' movement includes songs from "Animals," "Wish You Were Here" and "The Wall" albums. The fourth movement features songs from the David Gilmore epoch such as 'Dogs of War' and 'On the Turning Away.' The arrangements are exquisite. Such projects often render the original songs unrecognizable or the versions are note for note. While paying homage to the original band, "Pink Floyd: A Classical Tribute" manages to keep the music fresh to those who've listened to these songs a thousand times. While the music is excellent, the video is mediocre. Even the four lovely ladies in the string quartet can't hide the pixilation. The graphics are usually well done, although low budget. "Pink Floyd: A Classical Tribute" is best appreciated as a strong audio experience with some visuals. The audio is excellent in terms of both the quality of the performance and the surround sound separation. "Pink Floyd: A Classical Tribute" is a rewarding DVD for those Floydians who also appreciate the string quartet environment.
Summary:Pigs on the Strings! Overall Rating: Comment:This video may not be for every Floyd fan, but if you like the music of the Floyd and classical music you'll love this. Very tasteful and imaginative arrangements for string quartet, piano and flute. There are four movements, which include the songs in chronological sequence of the release on the PF albums and representing the four "eras" of the band: With Syd, After Syd,the Waters Period and After Waters. Good idea, because it keeps a coherent musical thread or concept with each movement. The video of the ensemble performance (watching the four lovely ladies sawing on their instruments is a plus) is interspersed with cutaways showing still shots of the band and video and computer generated clips appropriate to the songs.
Summary:Absolutely beautiful Overall Rating: Comment:For those willing to take the innovativeness of Pink Floyd to the next level, this is for you. In the spirit of Pink Floyd, this is completely different, but so perfect. Even the visuals stay true to what you would expect from the group. I sometimes play it just for background music.
Summary:Worth checking out. Overall Rating: Comment:For not only Pink Floyd fans but for music fans this treatment of Floyd is a sweet repast! I thoroughly enjoyed all the pieces,
however I am not really a fan of their work after "The Wall".
It almost seemed Pink Floyd had a lobotomy after Roger Waters left.
And also, whoever the asian woman is in the band, she's hot!
Summary:Boring Overall Rating: Comment:I'm a huge Pink Floyd fan and also a fan of classical music. I was so anxious to see and hear this dvd, but in five minutes I realized I'd been had. First of all it's unauthorized by the band. Secondly, the compositions were so simplified I felt as if I were watching a middle school stringed quartet. Many times they were half way through the song before I recognized what they were playing. A real boring disappointment. Too bad I had to give it an undeserving one star. Don't waste your money or time.
